The Indiana football program made a significant splash in the transfer portal this offseason. Not only did Indiana improve its depth at numerous positions, it also secured commitments from impact transfers.

One of the biggest additions made around the Big Ten was Indiana’s ability to land Western Michigan transfer Andre Carter. The 6-foot-5 and 273-pound defensive lineman comes to Bloomington as one of the most disruptive pass rushers in the country a season ago.

Last season, he totaled 70 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, seven sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception.

According to On3.com senior college football writer Matt Zenitz, Carter is a top-10 2024 NFL draft prospect among transfers this offseason. He broke down his top-10 list based on feedback from NFL executives and scouts.

“He’s a good sleeper,” an NFL scouting source told Zenitz. “He’s got a lot of ability. I’m not saying he’s Keion White (who was a second-round pick of the New England Patriots this year), but we could maybe see that kind of rise. I don’t think he’ll go as high as Keion because it’s a much better d-line class. Keion had the luxury of it being kind of a thinner year, but I see a similar type of player, kind of a big defensive end, can play inside. It’s a good pickup for Indiana.”

In 47 career games, Carter has 134 tackles, 11 sacks and six forced fumbles.

Earlier this offseason, Carter was named as the No. 28 most impactful transfer in the country. He was listed as the third most impactful defensive lineman.

Carter turned heads immediately when he stepped on campus this spring. He was named the defensive MVP in spring practice.

“I would say, as we recognize there, he (Andre Carter) was the MVP of the defense, he and Noah,” IU head coach Tom Allen said. “It was that way about every day. He is 270 pounds. He is the biggest, most physical one we’ve had here since I’ve been here. Very, very disruptive.”

Carter is expected to make a significant impact to a defense that has struggled getting to the quarterback over the last few seasons.
