Former Indiana basketball forward Jerome Hunter is coming off of his best and most productive season in college but is entering his final college season with some question marks.

The current Xavier forward is now sidelined ‘from all on-court basketball activities’ due to medical issue.

“Jerome Hunter is dealing with a medical issue that has sidelined him from all on-court basketball activities. Our medical team is working with Jerome to navigate a path for his return to full health. His timeline for a return to basketball will be established at a later time,” the school said in a statement.

While the condition is unknown, it’s a situation that is starting similarly to Hunter’s freshman season with the Indiana basketball program. Hunter took a medical redshirt his freshman year due to an undisclosed medical issue. He rarely saw the floor, during the summer and into the season, during his first year in college.

Hunter is coming off of a junior campaign when he averaged 7.8 points and 4.4 rebounds in 20.8 minutes per game. However, he saw those averages rise once he was inserted into the starting lineup. During the final 15 games of the season — including the Big East and NCAA Tournaments — he averaged 10.3 points and 5.9 rebounds while shooting 56.5 percent from the floor in 30 minutes a game.

He had games of 24 points and 14 points in two wins in the NCAA Tournament, before the Musketeers fell in the Sweet 16.

Hunter was a role player during his two full seasons in Bloomington. He played in 55 games for Indiana, averaging 4.9 points and shooting 32.4 percent from three.

Hunter came to Indiana as a top-60 prospect in the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He was part of former Indiana basketball head coach Archie Miller’s first recruiting class. Following the coaching change from Miller to Mike Woodson, it was deemed a ‘mutual decision’ for Hunter to enter the transfer portal.

“We decided to part ways … We just didn’t mix the way I think I wanted it to be between he and I,” Woodson said in a statement. “That’s no knock against him because I think he’s an excellent kid. We decided to part ways. He understood. I understood. He left here and still landed on his feet at Xavier. All I can do is wish him nothing but the best.”
