The Indiana basketball program is eyeing its first commitment of the 2024 class and a key target that is trending that way is top-10 prospect Liam McNeeley.

McNeeley has long been in favor of the Hoosiers but the past few months have pushed Indiana in a very solid spot for the five-star wing.

The 6-foot-7 wing has already visited the Indiana basketball program — a junior year official visit — and just set up a senior year official visit back to Bloomington. He will visit Indiana September 8-10, he confirmed to HoosierIllustrated.com.

Now, Indiana is being labeled as the ‘team to beat’ for McNeeley.

“McNeeley’s recruitment has felt like a Texas vs. Indiana battle for some time, but the Hoosiers are starting to seem like the steady force in what has been a volatile process at times,” Rivals National Recruiting Director Rob Cassidy wrote. “The period of uncertainty in Austin allowed Mike Woodson and his staff to seize the lead in the race to land McNeeley … the fact that McNeeley is planning a second official visit to Bloomington in early September suggests the stalwart Hoosiers may be out in front as summer gives way to fall. McNeeley has set no timetable for an announcement, but, at least for the time being, he feels like IU’s to lose.”

Indiana has always stood out near the top for McNeeley.

“Indiana is obviously a historic basketball state, and the fans in Indiana almost worship basketball,” McNeeley previously told HoosierIllustrated.com. “Love from the fans make me feel wanted.”

“They emphasized me being a bigger guard and being versatile. Coming off ball screens or posting up smaller defenders and moving the ball in transition.” McNeeley said.

At Montverde this season he averaged 13.7 points and was second in the NIBC averaging 2.2 made 3s per game. Playing for Florida Rebels on the Nike EYBL Circuit this summer, McNeeley averaged 16.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game across 17 games. He shot 37 percent from three (30-of-81).

Indiana, Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Michigan and Alabama are the key programs involved with McNeeley at this point.

McNeeley is ranked the No. 7 overall in the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
