Three of the top 2025 targets for Indiana basketball are all very local products and happen to be teammates on Indiana Elite.
Malachi Moreno, Trent Sisley and Braylon Mullins are all coming off of terrific high school seasons and are together as teammates for the first time on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit. How has it translated? Indiana Elite has started the first two sessions 9-0 and are blowing away the competition. Its nine wins have come by an average of 17.8 points per game.
Seven of the last eight games have come by 15+ points.
Mullins is averaging 20.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists. He’s shooting 53 percent from three (35-of-66) and has five games with at least four made 3s. His best two performances were going 8-of-11 and then 6-of-10 from three.
Moreno is averaging 14.2 points, 9.1 rebounds, 2.2 blocks, 2.0 assists. He is shooting 65.1 percent from the field and has three double-doubles. He is coming off of his best performance, a 29-point, 12-rebound and 5-block outing.
Sisley is averaging 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game this spring. He’s been incredibly efficient, shooting 57.5 percent from the floor and 45.8 percent from three (11-of-24). He’s been in double-figures in eight games thus far and had 22 points on 10-of-14 from the field last session. He has at least two made 3s in four games.
While each player is going through their own recruitment, Indiana is pursuing all three with heavy intensity.
Because of that, there is some discussion about taking an official visit soon with all three players on campus at the same time.
“It’s occasional, we’ll all talk about it (their recruitments) and see what each other likes,” Mullins said last week about their discussion of potentially playing together at the next level. “We’re trying to get an IU official visit together. That’s like a work in progress right now.”
All three have been on campus numerous times, just not in an intimate setting and on an official visit together.
It’s extremely difficult to land three teammates from the same AAU team, but Indiana has done it before — just in a different manner. Indiana was able to land the trio of guards from Indiana Elite a few years ago with Khristian Lander, Trey Galloway and Anthony Leal. Galloway and Leal had more localized recruitments while Lander reclassed up a year to join the Hoosiers.
At this point, the toughest out of the trio to land would likely be four-star center Malachi Moreno. The Kentucky native is starting to hear from more national schools like Arkansas, North Carolina and Kansas involved, albeit different levels of interest. It’s also not frequent that Indiana lands a commitment from a Kentucky prospect. With Mark Pope now on the sidelines for the Wildcats, one of his biggest points is keeping local kids in Kentucky.
But, if Indiana is able to lock down one or both of Mullins and Sisley, and this summer continues to go as it has started, a real chance of landing all three could come to fruition. With the recent success Indiana basketball has had with its big men, Moreno could follow that trend.
Mullins plays high school ball at Greenfield-Central while Sisley is at Heritage Hills.
All three players are still a bit away from making a decision, with Mullins likely to come first — still not until the late summer or early fall.
We’ll see if a visit happens, but if so, Indiana basketball could be in store for a significant haul in the 2025 class.
