Indiana basketball fans are coming off the highest of highs this week as Mike Woodson and the Hoosiers were able to secure a commitment from 2024 five-star wing Liam McNeeley on Sunday. Heading into this afternoon, Indiana basketball is hoping to hit the jackpot this week when it comes to hopefully landing the commitment of another 2024 five-star, Boogie Fland.
However, Indiana basketball fans may on a rollercoaster of emotions this week, coming down from their high.
According to one national recruiting analyst, the winds may blowing in another direction.
National Recruiting Analyst Trilly Donovan of BurnerBall.com — a part of the Full Ride Network — posted on Twitter last night that he predicts 2024 five-star guard Boogie Fland will be choosing Kentucky this afternoon. HoosierIllustrated.com has also been hearing hearing the same thing from out sources, as well.
“Nothing is ever a done deal but it sounds like it’s gonna be UK,” one source told HoosierIllustrated.com. “That’s not a prediction, it’s a spoiler.”
A loss in the Boogie Fland recruitment would be a major blow to Mike Woodson and his Indiana basketball as they have made Fland one of their top targets in the 2024 class for awhile now. In the recents months, the Indiana basketball staff has made multiple trips out to New York see Fland in-person.
Fland had a terrific junior season and it carried over into the summer playing for the PSA Cardinals on the Nike EYBL Circuit. During his high school season he averaged 18.1 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.0 steals per game as a junior. He shot 34.6 percent from three (62-of-179). In the summer he averaged 15.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.8 assist per game during the regular season.
When speaking to Fland about what he like about Indiana the most, the development of what Mike Woodson did with former Indiana guard Jalen Hood-Schifino stood out.
“I mean it kind of gives the overview and puts things into perspective,” Fland said. “As a freshman (Jalen Hood) Schifino was able to come in play a bunch of minutes and impact the winning Indiana did last season. To see that at the guard postion is big (for me).”
In today’s college basketball recruiting, nothing is for certain until the prospect makes it official himself.
While the winds may have blow towards Kentucky’s way, sources have remained firm on the fact that this is very close to call, in either direction. There are some that think Indiana wins out while others are hearing Kentucky. It’s going to be a fight until the end.
We will find out around 2 PM ET today on what school Boogie Fland will be attending.
