Look: Bob Knight’s first practice plan as Indiana basketball head coach

A really cool item from the archives of Indiana basketball caught the public’s eye earlier this week, and it features the most legendary coach in program history.

Posted by @BobKnightLegacy on Twitter, former Hoosiers head coach Bob Knight’s first practice plan as Indiana basketball head coach from nearly 52 years ago was released. In the practice plan, you can see the team worked on transition jump shots, help-side defense, guard drills, rebounding, and much more.

Bob Knight, who coached Indiana from 1971-2000, won three national championships for the Hoosiers (1976, 1981, 1987). Besides his time with Indiana basketball, Knight also had stints with Army and Texas Tech. As every fan is aware, Bob Knight was also the head coach of current Hoosiers head coach Mike Woodson, who has said that it is his job to bridge the gap between the older and newer generation of Indiana basketball.

“All I can talk about is the days when Coach Knight was here and how you know, he had everybody come back every year, and that was a beautiful reunion, man. I miss those days. And I’m going to bring those days back because I think it’s important,” Woodson said. “A lot of these old-timers, they probably look at me as an old-timer. We laid the groundwork for where we are today and those players should never, ever be forgotten and in my heart they won’t ever be forgotten.”

In a pretty cool part of the 2023-24 Indiana schedule, the Hoosiers will host Knight’s former team Army on November 12th. This will be the first time ever that Indiana will play Army.
