A significant name has hit the transfer portal and the Indiana basketball program is involved. Penn guard Jordan Dingle announced his intention to transfer on Friday morning and Indiana was one of the first programs to reach out.

According to Travis Graf of MadeHoops, Indiana and Washington are the first programs to reach out. HoosierIllustrated.com has confirmed IU’s interest.

Jordan Dingle was the IVY League Player of the Year in 2022-23 after averaging 23.4 points per game. He ranked second in all of division one in scoring last season. His point per game average was the best in the Ivy League in the last 35 years.

Dingle shot 46.4 percent from the field and 35.6 percent from three. He hit 77 3s last season and averaged 2.8 made 3s per game. He hit at least four 3s in 12 games.

He had 22 games of at least 20 points, including three 30+ point games. His high was 37 points against La Salle where he hit six 3s.

Dingle was also one of the most efficient players from the free throw line, shooting 85.6 percent on 6.0 attempts per game.

In 2021-22, Dingle averaged 20.9 points and shot 33.5 percent from three with 2.5 made 3s a game. He had games of 23 points against Florida State, 21 points against Villanova. He had four 30+ point games.

As a freshman, Dingle scored 27 points against Arizona and 24 points against Alabama.

In three seasons, Dingle has hit 200 3s and has shot 34.4 percent from three in his career.

In addition to hitting the transfer portal, Dingle is testing the NBA draft waters while maintaining his college eligibility.

Dingle is terrific both on and off of the ball. He has a great feel for the game and is a terrific cutter. His ball screen ability is very effective as well, with a great ability to get to the rim.

IU assistant coach Kenya Hunter — who played college basketball at Duquesne — played against Dingle’s father while he was at UMass.

The Indiana basketball program has three scholarships available for the 2023-24 season. It received news this week that senior guard Xavier Johnson would be returning after the NCAA granted his hardship waiver.
