The Indiana basketball program has been active in the transfer portal and have taken the next step with a key portal prospect.

Iowa transfer guard and Indianapolis native Tony Perkins has cut his list to six schools — including Indiana basketball. His list consists of Indiana, Missouri, Arkansas, Oregon, Oklahoma and Ole Miss.

Perkins is a 6-foot-4 lead guard who averaged 14.0 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.6 steals per game. He started all 34 games he appeared in. His assist (25.3) and steal rate (2.8) were both 10th in the Big Ten.

During Big Ten play alone, Perkins averaged 15.5 points across 20 games.

He was named All-Big Ten Second Team.

As a junior, Perkins averaged 12.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.4 steals per game. He had 23 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists at Indiana that season. He also had his career-high 32 points against Illinois.

Perkins is the alpha-type lead guard on both ends of the floor who is proven and experienced at the Big Ten level. He has started 81 of 126 career games — including all 66 games in the past two seasons.

From Lawrence North (Ind.), Perkins was runner-up for Indiana Mr. Basketball in 2020 behind Indian basketball guard Anthony Leal.

Indiana basketball has six available scholarships for the 2024-25 season and have an opening at the lead guard spot after the graduation of Xavier Johnson. Currently, there is just one incoming player for Indiana basketball in five-star wing and McDonald’s All-American Bryson Tucker.
