The Indiana baseball program continues to be a path forward to the next level and this year echoed that sentiment as two more players were selected in the MLB Draft.
The 2023 draft made it three years in a row when Indiana baseball has been represented. This year it was Craig Yoho and Phillip Glasser who heard their names called on day two of the draft.
Yoho was selected in the eighth round with the No. 242 overall pick by the Milwaukee Brewers. Yoho was hit with numerous injuries throughout his career, including two Tommy John surgeries. In 2023, Yoho was second among Indiana pitchers with 63 strikeouts. He posted a 3.41 era across 37 innings pitched.
Following the 2023 season, Yoho put his name in the transfer portal and eventually committed to Arkansas. He was named a Freshman All-American this year.
The second Hoosier taken was shortstop Phillip Glasser. Glasser was selected No. No. 285 overall in the 10th round by the Washington Nationals.
Glasser played at Youngstown State University for his first three years before transferring to Indiana. In his first season for IU in 2022, he hit .346 in 47 games. Last season, he hit .367 in 63 appearances. He also finished with seven home runs and 48 RBIs.
One of the most consistent hitters for Indiana throughout his two seasons, he owned a 45-game reached base streak which tied for the longest by an Indiana hitter since 2005. He would reach base in 61 of his 63 games played.
Glasser was a Second-Team All-Big Ten selection this season.
Yoho and Glasser make it 116 overall draft picks in Indiana baseball history. 12 of the 21 draft picks under head coach Jeff Mercer have been pitchers.
2023’s draft class for IU comes two years after six selection, most in the Big Ten and a few years removed from school-record of 10 selection in 2019.
