Indiana basketball returns to Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall during its 124th season of competition in men’s basketball for a primetime showdown against Ohio State on Jan. 6. The Hoosiers currently sit at 2-1 in the conference coming off of a 86-70 loss to Nebraska earlier this week.

The Buckeyes (12-2, 2-1) are led by 17.4 points and 4.3 assists per game from sophomore guard Bruce Thornton. Minnesota transfer Jamison Battle and sophomore guard Roddy Gayle Jr. each score 14.9 points per outing. The OSU trio has made 87-of-212 (41.0%) from the 3-point line.

Seventh-year head coach Chris Holtmann enters the game with conference wins over Minnesota and Rutgers at home. The Buckeyes also hold victories over Alabama, UCLA, and West Virginia on neutral courts.

First Half

Indiana wins the tip and we are off. Malik Reneau misses a hook shot.

Indiana gets a defensive stop and Mackenzie Mgbako with a nice drive and dish to Kel’el Ware for the easy slam.

Mgbako rished a shot there but Indiana basketball got a defensive stop and Reneau got an easy transition bucket.

Kel’el Ware picks up his first foul at the 17:10 mark

Xavier Johnson picks up his first foul.

Trey Galloway picks up his third foul and OSU gets the bucket. CJ Gunn checks in.

Mike Woodson calls timeout. Ohio State leads by 9 now. Pathetic.

Malik Reneau gets Indiana first points of the half. Another bucket from Reneau.

Johnson with a strong drive get him to the line. He goes 2-2.

Under-16 Media timeout: OSU 46, Indiana basketball 43

Kaleb Banks forces a OSU turnover out of the break.

Malik Reneau three ties it up at 48.

Media timeout at the 11:43 mark: Tied at 48. 

Ohio State scores out of the break.

Reneau gets fouled out of the post up. He goes 2-2 at the line. Tied at 50.

Xavier Johnson corner three gives Indiana the lead. Ohio State follows with a turnover.

Anthony Walker in for Ware.

CJ Gunn hits a tough pull-up jumper to extend the lead to 55-52.

Timeout OSU.

Indiana on 7-0 run right now the last 3:04.

Indiana leads 57-52 with 6:46 left. 

Ohio State scores out of the break.

CJ Gunn big three.

Indiana extends the lead to 62-54.

Ohio State scores to end a big drought for them. Indiana has hit their last 5-of-7.

Reneau scores out of the break. Lead back up to 8.

Indiana lead is up to 66-56. Hoosiers are rolling right now. 3:14 left.

Battle corner three brings the lead down to 7.

Refs may have missed a goaltender on the Anthony Walker layup attempts. Ware checks back in for him.

Xavier Johnson strong drive gets him to the line. He missed the first. He makes the first.

Malik Reneau picks up his third foul and gives up the bucket.

OSU got the rebound from a missed FT and got a bucket. Indiana’s lead is 67-65 now. 1:44 left.
