The Indiana basketball program has two scholarships available and is still active looking to add to its roster. One name that is emerging as a potential candidate is Clemson guard Alex Hemenway.
Hemenway, a Newburgh, Indiana native, played five seasons at Clemson and will have one year of eligibility remaining. He played in just five games this season after dealing with a ‘lower-body’ injury related to plantar fasciitis.
According to 247Sports national analyst Dushawn London, Hemenway has started to plan his visits. He will take a visit to Vanderbilt this weekend, Maryland on May 9 and working on setting up a visit with Indiana basketball May 14.
Hemenway averaged 5.2 points and shot 42.1 percent from three in 15.6 minutes per game this year. He was 8-of-19 from three in five games before his injury.
Before his injury, Hemenway was averaging 1.5 points per possession on spot up opportunities, ranking in the 96th percentile. 78 percent of his attempts were spot up.
During the 2022-23 season, Hemenway played in 20 games and started 12. He averaged 6.9 points and shot 47.1 percent from three on 1.7 made 3s per game. He was limited due to multiple different injuries throughout the season.
He had five double-digit scoring games.
In 2021-22, Hemenway played 14.6 minutes per game and averaged 5.2 points and shot 40.6 percent from three on 1.3 made 3s per game.
For his career, Hemenway has appeared in 95 games, starting 25, and is a career 42.9 percent three-point shooter with 1.3 made 3s per game.
Indiana added Illinois transfer wing Luke Goode this offseason — a career 38.8 percent three-point shooter, but adding another wing shooter has been a priority. Indiana basketball shot 32.4 percent from three last season — ranked 255th nationally. It also 355th in total percent of points coming from three. Indiana averaged just 5.0 made 3s per game last season.
