The NBA season is just two weeks away and preseason rankings and projected are out in full force. This week was player rankings. Despite the lack of recent success from Indiana basketball players, one former standout did make a jump in the latest player rankings.

ESPN came out with its annual NBArank player rankings on Tuesday with players 51-100. Only one Hoosier was on the list, however. That was wing OG Anunoby.

Anunoby is coming off of one of his best years as a pro, averaging 16.8 points — slightly lower than his 17.1 a game last year — but his efficiency was up drastically. He shot 47.6 percent from the field and 38.7 percent from three. He also added 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.9 steals per game.

His defensive play earned him a spot on the NBA All-Defensive Second Team.

Over the last two years, OG Anunoby has turned himself into one of the best defensive wings in addition to an ever-increasing offensive talent.

His play earned him a slightly better rating than last year. He rose eight spots, up to No. 67 in the league.

“Anunoby is an elite defensive player, strong and skilled enough at that end to guard virtually any player or position. What goes unnoticed at times, however, is that he’s become a very dependable 3-point shooter, hitting more than 38% on more than six attempts per game over the past three seasons,” ESPN’s Tim Bontemps wrote. “If Anunoby keeps that up, he’s going to be in for a massive payday next summer — either in Toronto or elsewhere.”

OG Anunoby has been a topic of conversation among many NBA teams surrounding the last two trade deadlines. Despite not being dealt, there is still an expectation that he won’t be in Toronto long term.

The Raptors can offer an extension up to four-years and $117-million this year.

“I love Toronto so I want to be here,” The 26-year-old Anunoby said at Media Day. He went on to say he will let his agents work on contract talks.

For the Toronto Raptors, they finished the season 41-41 and lost to the Chicago Bulls in the NBA’s Play-in Tournament. Following the season, the Raptors fired head coach Nick Nurse.
