The Indiana basketball program needed shooting this offseason and that’s exactly why it targeted and eventually landed Illinois transfer Luke Goode.

The 6-foot-7 shooter had his most successful season at Illinois this past year, averaging 5.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and shooting 38.9 percent from three in 20.1 minutes per game. He led Illinois in three-point percentage and was second in made 3s with 61.

Goode averaged 1.6 made 3s per game. He had 29 games with at least one made three and 17 games with at least two 3s.

His 61 made 3s ranked 15th in the Big Ten this season. 87.7 percent of his shot attempts this season came from three. He only attempted 22 twos.

“Luke is a knockdown 3-point shooter that provides length and rebounding ability from the wing position,” Indiana basketball head coach Mike Woodson said of Goode. “He comes from a very athletic background with deep family ties to this University. He has competed at the highest level of the Big Ten and is a player we will count on to help us stretch the floor. We are excited to bring his family back to Hoosier Nation.”

Indiana shot 32.4 percent from three, ranked 273rd in the country. Even worse, it ranked 351st overall in three-point rate and 355th in total points from three. The Hoosiers finished the season getting outscored by 354 points on 3s.

Full Ride Network founder Ant Wright broke down the addition of Goode and what it means for Indiana basketball, in addition to his fit and overall skillset.

“He’s not a guy who will create rim pressure at this level and will always be a fourth option type of role but probably one of the best guys in the country in that role,” Wright said. “At Indiana he’ll have both a strong front court and backcourt that will get all of the attention and scouting while Goode will be the best shooter on the floor.”
