Video: In-depth breakdown of Langdon Hatton, his fit and what he will bring to Indiana basketball

When the Indiana basketball program landed Langdon Hatton from the transfer portal, he was a perfect fit for what it needed — a backup big who can run the floor, rebound the ball on both ends and even stretch the floor at times. While he won’t play major minutes, his addition was critical for the Hoosiers.

He joins a transfer class that was already ranked No. 2 overall this spring. IU’s class consists of Arizona center Oumar Ballo, Washington State guard Myles Rice, Stanford guard Kanaan Carlyle and Illinois wing Luke Goode in addition to Hatton.

Hatton is a 6-foot-10 center who averaged 10.5 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game in 31 games this past season. He shot 33.3 percent from three (15-of-45) last year. In his career, he’s 18-of-55 on 3s. He has the ability to be effective in pick and pop scenarios as he had a 66 percent effective field goal rate on catch and shoot 3s, ranked in the 95th percentile last year.

“Langdon is an experienced, versatile big man that will help us with our frontcourt depth,” Indiana basketball head coach Mike Woodson said of Hatton. “He is a big body that can work in the post, get after the glass, and step out to knock down a shot. He is an Indiana kid that plays the right way, and we are excited to bring him home to the Hoosier state.”

Hatton played two years at Bellarmine after starting his career at William & Mary where he played one season in 2021.

Hatton has one year of eligibility remaining.

Full Ride Network founder Ant Wright broke down the addition of Hatton and what it means for Indiana basketball, in addition to his fit and overall skillset.

“(He’s) a finesse big, an upperclassman with over 1,700 minutes played,” Wright said. “He won’t be relied on a ton but he’s a senior who’s not worried about his individual accolades, he’s only worried about winning and whatever the team needs to reach its ceiling.”
