Indiana basketball seniors Trey Galloway and Anthony Leal announced on Sunday that they would both be using their covid years and return to Bloomington next season.

Both players are part of the final recruiting class that can use their covid year.

“We’re gonna run it back,” Leal said during his senior speech. “But you guys (fans) gotta chill.”

“I’ll be back next year,” Galloway added as he wrapped up his senior speech. “Let’s do it.”

Both players announced their decisions during senior day activities following Indiana’s 65-64 win over Michigan State.

“I’m not surprised at all. It means a lot,” Indiana basketball head coach Mike Woodson said postgame. “You know, we been through the battles together, and yet Leal hadn’t played a whole lot but played some this year and played well for us. For him (Leal) to tell Hoosier Nation that he’s coming back, along with Galloway, that means a lot to me as a coach.”

Galloway has played in 108 games with Indiana and averaged 6.9 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. This season, Galloway averaged a career high 10.8 points, 2.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game. He is one of four Indiana basketball players with three games of 11+ assists in a career, joining Isiah Thomas, Jamal Meeks and Michael Lewis.

Leal has appeared in 68 games with Indiana and averaged 1.7 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game. He is a career 34.7 percent three-point shooter for the Hoosiers.

“I mean, for them to say they’re coming back, hell, we got to continue to build or basketball team,” Woodson added. “I don’t know who is going to be here and where we got to go and get players. That’s the world we live in with the portal and what’s going on in college sports.

“I can’t address none of that and I can’t tell them who’s going to be their teammates. Just don’t know. I don’t know that yet. So this summer will be very pivotal and important for our program in moving forward. That’s just what college basketball presents every summer.”

Indiana basketball won its fourth straight game on Sunday to end the season.
