Indiana football heads into its week eight matchup with its best start since 1967 — sitting at 6-0 and ranked No. 16 in the AP Top 25. Now, it turns its attention to Nebraska which will be a sellout crowd inside Memorial Stadium for Homecoming.
The Huskers are 5-1 and just two spots out of the top-25. Nebraska’s lone loss came in overtime to a ranked Illinois team.
Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule spoke with reporters last week during their bye week and again on Monday. He discussed Indiana football, the upcoming matchup and what his team needs to do in order to come out with a win.
Below are a few key quotes and the full video Q&As.
Initial Thoughts Of Indiana: “They’re leading the Big Ten in passing and I believe close, if not the top, in rushing. They’re top 10 in the country in offense and defense. They haven’t trailed all year and scored 80 points in the fourth quarter. This is probably a top-10 football team we’re facing. They started the season unranked so maybe they aren’t getting the due they’re supposed to … coach Cignetti has done an amazing job. their quarterback is absolutely fantastic. they got playmakers, they’re good on special teams. It’s a great team.”
On Indiana’s Turnaround: “I’m not surprised by it, let me say that. The team they (Curt Cignetti and his staff) had at James Madison was an excellent team. The world has changed — you come somewhere now and a lot of your good players come with you. They brought over a lot of guys that know how to win and they have a great coaching staff. The Cignetti family — if you’re from where I’m from — that’s a legendary coaching family. Coach Cignetti, Sr. was as good as there was and both brothers are excellent. Curt’s a great coach. He’s turned around every place he’s been.
“And two or three years ago, Indiana had a good team. It’s not like they’ve been in the gutter for a long time. They’ve had good seasons and he (Curt Cignetti) comes in with swagger. He has a really good quarterback that transferred in … They had some good players that were already there. They had some great wideouts and they’re rolling. They’re following his demeanor and they play with a lot of confidence and swagger, so it’s great.”
