Indiana football and Curt Cignetti filled a major need heading into the 2025 season as former Notre Dame center Pat Coogan has committed to play for the Hoosiers he announced on X/Twitter.

With 2024 starting center and captain Mike Katic graduating and moving on to a new career with Barstool Sports there was no clear replacement option for Indiana football at the center position.

Coogan was a key piece of a Notre Dame offensive line that was one of the best units in the country. As a team, The Fighting Irish averaged 200.9 rushing yards per game and totaled 45 rushing touchdowns in 16 games.

Like Katic, Coogan has experience at both guard and center, but will likely start at center for Indiana Football.

In 2023, Coogan started all 13 games at left guard but began the 2024 season as a rotational piece for the Fighting Irish. Coogan started in the final 13 games of the season for Notre Dame en route to a National Championship appearance.

Indiana football beat out Michigan for Coogan’s commitment. Coogan, who has one year of eligibility remaining, was ranked as a four-star transfer and the No. 62 player in the 2025 transfer portal class according to 247Sports.

Curt Cignetti and Indiana football have made a clear effort to replace 2024 starting center Mike Katic and starting right tackle Trey Wedig on the offensive line. Coogan joins Ohio State transfer Zen Michalski as a key addition to the offensive line.

Coogan is the 20th player to commit to Indiana football in the transfer portal.
