While former Indiana basketball commit Liam McNeeley is still in the midst of a late-season run for a high school national championship, it hasn’t stopped college coaches from pursuing the McDonald’s All-American wing.

After opening up his recruitment last month, it put Indiana basketball fans in a tailspin. The news of his de-commitment came on the heels of the news that Mike Woodson would be returning to the sidelines next year.

While Indiana re-loaded by landing five-star McDonald’s All-American Bryson Tucker this week, programs around the country are waiting for where McNeeley will land.

For one Big Ten head coach, however, he’s not waiting long to make it known he wants him.

Former Indiana basketball manager and current head coach of the Michigan Wolverines, Dusty May, has put his name in the hat for the talented perimeter player. According to ESPN’s Paul Biancardi, McNeeley says Dusty May’s first call was to him.

“Moving forward, I have had contact with several schools, including Kentucky, UConn, Kansas, Houston and many others,” McNeeley told Biancardi. “New Michigan head coach Dusty May said I was his first recruiting call. That was special.”

May took over the Michigan program after a successful run at Florida Atlantic. He took over the Michigan program last week after the Wolverines parted ways with Juwan Howard.

This season for Montverde Academy (Fla.), McNeeley is averaging 12.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. He is also shooting 46 percent (58-of-126) from three. In NIBC games alone, he is leading the league at 45.9 percent on 2.3 made 3s per game.

Last season, McNeeley averaged 13.7 points and was second in the NIBC averaging 2.2 made 3s per game. Over the summer playing for the Florida Rebels on the Nike EYBL Circuit this summer, McNeeley averaged 16.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game across 17 games. He shot 37 percent from three (30-of-81).
