Indiana football suffered a brutal blow in their blowout win against Nebraska on Saturday when star quarterback Kurtis Rourke left the game after suffering an injury to his right thumb.

According to Pete Thamel of ESPN Rourke underwent surgery on his thumb on Monday and is doubtful for this weekend’s game against Washington.

Indiana football head coach Curt Cignetti addressed the injury postgame on Saturday.

“He hit a thumb on a helmet, nail kind of came off,” Cignetti said of Rourke. “We’ll know more tomorrow. But optimistic.”

Thamel did add that Rourke could be back as soon as November 2, when Indiana football travels to face Michigan State for the Old Brass Spittoon.

Rourke has been a driving force for the Hoosiers this season, throwing for 1,941 yards with 15 touchdowns to just three interceptions. He’s completing 74.6 percent of his pass attempts on the year.

With Rourke likely out this weekend, Cignetti will turn to Tayven Jackson who played well in relief for Rourke.

Jackson played the entire second half and went 7-8 for 91 yards and threw for two touchdowns.

With College GameDay in attendance, it will be a big test for Jackson and Indiana football on a massive stage.
