The IU football program is involved with one of the most highly effective linebackers in the transfer portal and a decision is coming soon.

Fresno State linebacker Phoenix Jackson has named his top four schools and that includes IU football, Auburn, SMU and Nebraska, according to On3.com national analyst Pete Nakos. Jackson is a 6-foot, 220-pound linebacker with one year of eligibility remaining.

This year, Jackson had 49 tackles, seven tackles for loss, four sacks, two interceptions and four pass breakups.

He held the third-highest coverage grade among linebackers nationally according to Pro Football Focus.

For his career, Jackson totaled 101 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and three interceptions.

IU football is slated to lose key linebacker Jailin Walker — one of the top linebackers in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers are expected to return All-Big Ten linebacker Aiden Fisher, however.

Jackson was an unranked member of the 2021 recruiting class who worked his way on to scholarship and one of the more productive linebackers in the conference.
