IU basketball has seen a slight rise in the latest AP Top 25 Rankings Poll.

After starting off the season with wins over both SIUE and Eastern Illinois, the IU basketball Hoosiers have risen to No. 16 in the AP Top 25. IU basketball started off the season as the No. 17 overall team in the country.

Through two games, the Hoosiers are averaging 85.0 points per game with sophomore forward Mackenzie Mgbako leading the team in both points and rebounds. Mgbako has played at a different level so far this season averaging a team high 24.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.

It’s very encouraging because he’s really starting to extend this game a little bit,” said Mike Woodson. “You know, he’s been very active, like you said, on hitting the boards. He’s been able to rebound the ball….It’s just nice to see his growth heading in the right direction. We just got to keep him there.”

While this team is very talented, they are still a work in progress as they continue to try and learn how to play together in game settings, especially on the offensive end.

“Don’t know. Still searching,” Woodson said when asked about his team’s offensive identity. “I do know we can score the basketball. Certain guys haven’t really made shots like I thought they would. They’ll start falling eventually.”

Other Big Ten teams listed in the Top 25 include Purdue (No. 13), Ohio State (No. 21), and Rutgers (No. 24).
