Indiana basketball coach Mike Woodson gave an update on the injury status of both Trey Galloway and Jakai Newton during his media availability on Friday.

Woodson shared that both guards played in limited minutes during a team scrimmage earlier this week. He estimated that Galloway and Newton each played 15-18 minutes during the scrimmage.

We’ve kind of been slow-walking it back, ’cause it is a long season. They have not fully recovered,Woodson said. They might tell you guys that, but that’s why we’re being cautious.”

Woodson also shared that he is unsure if either will play in Sunday’s exhibition against Tennessee.

He said that he is going to let head athletic trainer Tim Garl and the medical staff lead the way in deciding on both guard’s availability on Sunday.

Galloway made similar comments about his status during Big Ten Media Day three weeks ago.

“Not fully (back), it’s — these last few weeks have been ramping up,Galloway said during Big Ten Media Day.I’ve done some half-court stuff, but this next week I should be pretty much full go.”

It’s been great to get out there with the guys. It’s been a long process with the knee and everything. It takes a lot of time to recover. I think we’ve done a great job of taking my time with everything. There was no need to rush.”

Galloway averaged 10.8 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game last season as the primary ball handler for Indiana basketball. With the additions of Myles Rice and Kanaan Carlyle, Indiana basketball can afford to be patient with the return of both Galloway and Newton.
