IU basketball will be without sophomore guard Gabe Cupps for an extended period of time after he underwent surgery this week.
Cupps underwent a successful surgery to treat a ‘preexisting, nagging injury to his lower body’ and will be out indefinitely, the school announced on Wednesday. Later on Wednesday night, Cupps posted on social media that it was a meniscus injury.
Cupps hasn’t played since Nov. 29 and has appeared in just four games this season. He has played just 25 minutes this year and has yet to score.
The sophomore guard appeared in 33 games as a freshman, including 22 starts, averaging 2.6 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.
Cupps was a four-star guard out of Centerville (Oh.).
Indiana has had backcourt players such as Kanaan Carlyle and Jakai Newton who have missed time this year already with injuries.
IU basketball is 8-2 (1-0) and play Nebraska on Friday night.
