The Indiana football program continues to trend upwards in notable metrics after a 4-0 start to the Curt Cignetti era.

It is four straight wins to begin the 2024 season for the Indiana football program and based on the eye test — and the results — Indiana continues to rise up the metrics. Where are they now? Well, in a place not many people outside of the program thought they could be at this point.

Following its win on Saturday over Charlotte, Indiana rose to 15th in the ESPN FPI rankings. Just four weeks ago, Indiana was ranked 77th in the FPI rankings.

What else do the metrics say? Indiana football now has the 15th best odds to make the College Football Playoffs with a 27.4 percent chance.

Indiana, who had just a 44.9 percent chance of reaching six wins at the start of the season, has now seen that percent jump all the way up to 99.7.

How has Indiana football been able to jump out to this level of success right out of the gate? A lot of it is contributed to the explosive offense.

The Hoosiers have scored 202 points through the first four games, the most in any four-game stretch in program history. They are also the first FBS team to eclipse the 200-point mark this season.

They also have a point differential of +165 this season.

“I think this team has learned a lot, and I think they’ve developed some pretty strong intangibles,” Curt Cignetti said after Saturday’s win. “We certainly have strong character on this football team and a lot of really good guys as well as good players. We’re looking forward to what’s ahead. I think the whole key right now is maintaining our focus. We can’t have any distractions, and we got to stay focused, humble, and hungry.”

Other notable metrics include Indiana ranked 3rd in offensive efficiency and 9th overall.

Cignetti became the first coach in Indiana football program history to start his career with four straight wins.

Indiana now heads into Big Ten play for the remainder of the season, beginning with Maryland next week.
