Curt Cignetti has put a priority on his time in the short seven months he’s been at the helm of the Indiana football program. He won’t waste your time if you don’t waste his. And he’s showing that mindset on the recruiting trail.
Whether it is through the transfer portal or with high school prospects, Cignetti has not just put Indiana in position to land major players, he’s landed them too.
And as we wind down June, Cignetti and the rest of his staff will look back on this month in the coming years as the tone-setter for the future of the program. Indiana has landed nine commitments for its 2025 class in June and hosted numerous other four and five-star prospects throughout the month from both the 2025 and 2026 classes.
The recruiting momentum was on full display this past week as IU landed five commits following two major days of hosting prospects. Triston Abram, Andrew Barker, Keishaun Calhoun, Jamari Farmer and Zacharey Smith were the five who have joined the program over the last week and Indiana beat out programs like Memphis, Kansas State, Texas A&M, Louisville, Auburn and others who were in pursuit of the prospects..
But, the expectation is more to come … and soon, says 247Sports national insider Allen Trieu.
“The Hoosiers are not likely to be done yet as this weekend laid the foundation for others to join the class in the near future,” Trieu wrote on Monday. “All in all, it is a quick show of what new head coach Curt Cignetti and his staff are looking to do in Bloomington and why supporters of Hoosier football should have a healthy amount of excitement for their future.”

The need for support has been adamant and a major point of emphasis from Cignetti throughout the early stages of his tenure.
And the fans have reciprocated everything Cignetti has stressed, leading to an NIL fund that is ‘more than what I was promised’ says Cignetti.
Who should be surprised, though? This is exactly what Curt Cignetti said would happen when he took the Indiana football job. He said he was going to change the narrative around IU and make this program a winner.
“Why shouldn’t we be in that position?” Cignetti said last month about landing big time prospects. “We’re a state school, and the Big Ten and SEC are calling all the shots in college football. With the proper commitment (from the administration), any team really in the Big Ten, especially that has a state name, should — can be successful.”
Cignetti told everyone right when he took the job — ‘I win’. While the product on the field isn’t ‘live’ yet, he’s surely winning on the recruiting trail and continuing to build positive momentum every time you turn your head.
“Given their track record of success and then what they’ve been able to do in recruiting in a short period of time,” Trieu said about the Indiana football staff. “The Hoosiers have our attention.”
