Saturday afternoon, Pete Nakos of On3 Sports announced that Indiana football quarterback Tayven Jackson had entered the transfer portal.

Jackson, a former Tennessee transfer and top-200 recruit, built a big name for himself when he transferred to Indiana ahead of the 2023 CFB season.

In his first season with Indiana football in 2023, Jackson started in five games for Indiana, while appearing in six games.

At the time a redshirt freshman quarterback, Jackson passed for 914 yards on 78 completions, throwing for two touchdowns and five interceptions. Jackson was sacked five times, rushing for -21 yards on 28 attempts, finding the end zone once on rushing attempts.

While coach Tom Allen departed Indiana’s program following the 2023 season, Jackson opted to stay with Indiana, serving as the backup quarterback for 2024, sitting behind Ohio transfer Kurtis Rourke for a majority of the season.

Jackson started in just one game in 2024 for Indiana, defeating Washington 31-17 at home while Rourke was sidelined with a thumb injury. In his lone start, Jackson passed for 124 yards, completing 11-of-19 passing attempts, throwing one touchdown, one interception and rushing for a touchdown.

Jackson finished the 2024 season with five total appearances, throwing for 349 passing yards, four touchdowns and an interception.

With Rourke out of eligibility, Indiana football head coach Curt Cignetti has expressed an interest in bringing in a new quarterback from the transfer portal. It is known that Penn State quarterback Beau Pribula had scheduled a campus visit at Indiana for this weekend.

Jackson’s departure drops Indiana’s quarterback room to just two quarterbacks now, having Tyler Cherry and Alberto Mendoza.

Jackson will classify as a redshirt junior next season for whichever school he plays at, while having three years of power five collegiate football experience under his belt.
