Indiana football did not wait long to replace QB coach and co-offensive coordinator Tino Sunseri, who will leave the program to become the offensive coordinator and play-caller at UCLA at the end of the year.

Head coach Curt Cignetti quickly filled the opening, hiring Atlanta Falcons Pass Game Specialist Chandler Whitmer to replace Sunseri according to Pete Thamel.

Whitmer played quarterback for UConn from 2012-14 and started in 24 games for the Huskies. After completing his collegiate career he earned a mini-camp invite with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The 33-year-old has quickly ascended as a coach after starting his career as a graduate assistant with Ohio State in 2019. In his lone season with the Buckeyes, the team went 12-0 en route to a Big Ten Championship and College Football Playoff appearance.

He then spent the 2020 season with Clemson as a graduate assistant before joining the Los Angeles Chargers staff as an offensive quality control coach in 2021.

With the Chargers he primarily worked with the quarterback room to help assist their preparation week to week.

Whitmer has a wealth of experience in his short time as a coach working with some high-level quarterbacks at both the collegiate and professional level. Those names include Justin Herbert, Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, and others.

Whitmer will officially take over for Sunseri after the season.
