The Indiana basketball program — both men’s and women’s — will be debuting alternate uniforms this month during home games, the university announced on Thursday. This is in partnership with Adidas during Black History Month and the ‘Honoring Black Excellence’ initiative.
The women will be wearing their jerseys on Thursday night against Rutgers, while the men will be wearing their jerseys on Feb. 14 for their home game against UCLA.
Last spring, Indiana and Adidas extended its partnership with a 10-year extension that is expected to run through the 2034 year. IU has been a partner of Adidas since 2004.
This isn’t the first year that Indiana has partaken in wearing alternate jerseys to honor Black History Month. Two years ago, Indiana wore red, white and pink jerseys to honor the initiative. Last year, Indiana basketball wore ‘Fear of God’ uniforms during another initiative — wearing limited-time alternate jerseys.
“You know, Adidas has been a good partner for us in the department, and from time to time, they do like to bring special products that they think will excite the players, excite recruits, those kinds of things,” IU Deputy Director of Athletics Stephen Harper told Don Fischer last year regarding the alternate jerseys.
The men’s Indiana basketball program is 14-9 overall and 5-7 in Big Ten play entering the final eight games of the year. It sits at 12th in the Big Ten standings. The Indiana women’s basketball program is 14-7 overall and 6-4 in conference play. They sit at ninth in the league standings.
