Greenfield-Central (Ind.) and Indiana Elite guard Braylon Mullins has been one of the biggest risers across the entire country — in any class — this spring. His play over the last 6-8 months has pushed his recruitment from a more regional level to a national level. And on Tuesday, his new ranking matched the eye test.
Mullins was the biggest riser in the 247Sports class of 2025 updated rankings, jumping 68 spots in their rankings up to No. 24 overall and the No. 5 overall shooting guard in the class. His massive boost was on the heels of a junior season when he averaged 25.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists and shot 43 percent (61-of-143) from three. That was all while dealing with a back injury.
He then followed that up with a terrific spring that solidified his now top-25 rankings. He averaged 20.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game this spring for an undefeated Indiana Elite squad. He also shot 55.8 percent (96-of-172) from the field and 52.1 percent (50-of-96) from three.
During the evaluation process ahead of the updated rankings, 247Sports Director of Scouting Adam Finkelstein was ‘blown away’ by Mullins after multiple trips to see him in person.
“I was blown away by this guy when I saw Indiana Elite in (Adidas) 3SSB because not only is he a big-time shooter, but this guy’s got some stuff to him, as we say,” Finkelstein said on ‘The College Basketball Show’ during the rankings reveal on Tuesday. “I mean, he is tough. He’s scrappy defensively. He’s got some lift at the rim. He checks a lot of boxes.”
“The sniper aspect of his game combined with his size and a real ability to go create his shot off the dribble without having to pound the ball into oblivion, is a real skill to have,” 247Sports National Basketball Director Eric Bossi added.
Mullins has earned offers from UConn, North Carolina, Kansas, Tennessee, Alabama, Michigan State, Michigan, Purdue and others all during the spring.
“Having seen him so early in the spring — as I traveled to different circuits in subsequent weeks — the question I asked myself when I watched almost every guard is, ‘Are you better than Braylon Mullins?’,” Finkelstein said.
Those comparisons started when Finkelstein first saw Mullins back at the beginning of May when he said he has ‘a chance to be special’.
“Really impressed with Indiana Elite’s Braylon Mullins this weekend,” Finkelstein wrote. “The shooting is very real, he sees the game quickly, has good size, and plays with no fear. Give his body a chance to catch-up and he’s got a chance to be special.”
That ‘special’ talent has come to fruition and really shined over the last few months.
The recent surge by Mullins has Finkelstein comparing him to the rise then top-20 Kansas guard Elmarko Jackson made back in the 2023 class. Like Jackson, that surge now has Mullins in rare territory of possibly seeing himself earn McDonald’s All-American honors by next spring.
“Braylon Mullins is now in that range where those kind of accolades are now realistic,” Finkelstein said of Mullins rise. “They’re certainly not guaranteed, but I think he’s in that category of guys who have a realistic chance to play his way into some of the most prestigious games in high school basketball.”
Indiana basketball is at the top of Mullins’ recruitment. He has been to Bloomington numerous times and already has a senior year official visit scheduled. He will join fellow Indiana Elite teammates and Indiana basketball targets Trent Sisley and Malachi Moreno on a official visit the weekend of Sept. 20.
It’ll be a fight to the finish in Mullins’ recruitment — but Indiana basketball is doing everything and showing that the borderline 5-star guard is a massive want and need in the 2025 class.
