The Indiana basketball season is right around the corner, however the Hoosiers will be coming into the season just outside the Top 25.

Earlier this afternoon, the Preseason AP Top 25 was released and like most expected, Indiana basketball was not featured inside the top 25. However, Indiana basketball received three votes so at least the Hoosiers are on the radar of the voters.

In total, five teams that Indiana basketball will face this season were included in the top 25 featuring Kansas (No. 1), Purdue (No. 3), Michigan State (No. 4), UConn (No. 6), and Illinois (No. 25). Other schools that received votes that the Hoosiers will face include Wisconsin, Maryland, and Auburn.

It was no secret that when Mike Woodson took over the helm as Indiana basketball head coach, he wanted to play the best-of-the-best in college basketball. Seeing how many teams that are ranked heading into the season that are also on Indiana’s schedule is proving how dedicated he was in that goal.

“My thing is I take a season one game at a time, one practice at a time,” Mike Woodson said. “Yes, we’ve got goals. I can’t say this loud enough, guys: I came back here to win Big Ten titles and a national title. That’s all I want.

“I’m not going to push the team in any other direction. If they’re scared of that challenge, then they shouldn’t be here. That’s kind of how I look at it.”

Arguably the top matchup for the Hoosiers this season is when Kansas makes their way into Assembly Hall this season. The Jayhawks could very well likely come into that game as the No. 1 team in the country.

“I know our fans cannot wait to see Kansas at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall,” said Woodson. “It should be a great battle between two of the most historically significant programs in the country.”

Indiana’s ‘unofficial’ start of the season is Hoosier Hysteria this Friday, Oct. 20.
