The summer workouts for Indiana basketball have wrapped up and now their sole focus turns to the 2024-25 season.

There are plenty high expectations for this Indiana basketball squad for the upcoming season with the improvements they made in the offseason. After returning 6 key players from last year’s roster and adding 7 new pieces that add depth and fills needs, this Indiana basketball team has a chance to be one of the best teams not only in the Big Ten, but in the entire country.

With those high expectations, many of the national media are pretty high on Indiana basketball next season and think the improvements in the roster have done enough to consider the Hoosiers as a championship contender. In the latest NCAA Tournament Bracketology by Joe Lundari, Indiana basketball is listed as a No. 5 seed in the Midwest (Indianapolis) Region facing No. 12 seed McNeese State.

The Hoosiers missed the NCAA Tournament last season after finishing 19-14 record overall, 10-10 in Big Ten play.

“We’ve just got a lot of work to do this summer to get better,” Mike Woodson said after losing to Nebraska in the Big Ten Tournament last season. “I don’t want to sit here this time next year and not be playing in the (NCAA) tournament.”

Getting better is exactly what they did. Indiana basketball added 6 crucial pieces in the early parts of the transfer portal and most recently added 7-foot center Dallas James from South Carolina State, filling up all 13 scholarships in the 204-25 season. Mike Woodson improved the guard play with Myles Rice and Kanaan Caryle, added shooting with Luke Goode, brought in a five-star freshman in Bryson Tucker, and completed their front court with Oumar Ballo and Langdon Hatton.

Indiana basketball had arguably the most success out of any team in the transfer portal this offseason.

“We sat down at the end and I kind of treated it like I was when I was back in the NBA,” Mike Woodson told the media at Huber’s Winery earlier this summer. “I make our guys rank the top-10 players at their position. Then I make the decision on who I’m going to go get. If it’s the best player, then we got to give it a shot because all they could do is tell us no.”

“This summer was a busy summer me and my staff in terms of entertaining the portal and just a lot of work, man. It’s not gonna change, it’s going to be that way for years to come. I mean it is what it is.”

” … I’m pleased with the guys that we’ve brought in,” Said Woodson. “I just got to put it to work now to get them ready to play.”
