Some very positive news for Indiana basketball came out today the revolves around their senior guard, Trey Galloway.

When speaking with Jon Rothstein on “College Hoops Today,” Indiana basketball head coach Mike Woodson claimed that senior guard Trey Galloway “could be ready to go on the first day of practice’.” This is a very positive update as it was unknown just how much time Galloway was going to miss after undergoing knee surgery in the spring which has caused him to miss the majority of summer workouts.

Galloway suffered a knee injury on Senior Day against Michigan State that caused him to miss the last few games of the season.

“It’s a long journey. There’s days when it’s tough,” Galloway said when speaking to Miller Kopp on the Hoosiers Connect Podcast ‘The Player’s Perspective’ . “It’s feeling really good (now). I 100 percent believe I’m going to be back to my normal self if I just keep doing the right things. I’m just excited to get back to my normal self because it makes you realize how blessed we really are to be able to be healthy and to be doing the things we get to do. It’s not easy. There’s a lot of injuries in basketball that happen. So you just gotta be aware of that and know that you can’t take it for granted.”

Galloway averaged 10.8 points, 2.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game. He became one of four IU basketball players with three games of 11+ assists in a career, joining Isiah Thomas, Jamal Meeks and Michael Lewis, doing so all in the last six games he played. He ranked ninth in the Big Ten in assists per game and assist rate. He also ranked ninth in assist to turnover ratio while also playing at least 30 minutes a game.

Throughout his five seasons with Indiana basketball, Galloway has fought through a ton of injuries while maintaining as a key player for the Hoosiers during his college career.

“I’ve dealt with it a lot,” Galloway added. “I’ve already missed a summer before with my groin. I’ve had, definitely, some tough blows. My wrist and stuff, too. And now this, obviously. It’s really challenging just because you want to be out there with your teammates.”

Galloway will be looking to help lead Indiana basketball back to the NCAA Tournament after missing it last season. The Hoosiers finished just 19-14 on the year.

“Yeah, I mean, that’s obviously everybody’s answer (winning a Big Ten championship),’ said Galloway. “That’s everyone’s goals you know? I think success would be, looking at the big picture, leaving a really good legacy at Indiana and going off on a really high note. I mean, that’s the reason I came back is to win and be remembered as a winner.”

“I think just leaving my legacy, leaving the program better than when I came into it. Indiana wasn’t great when I committed. I mean it’s home and there is nothing better than me trying to see Indiana be at the top where it belongs. Obviously we have had a lot of ups and downs, but I think a success would be being remembered as a winner and going out as a winner my final year. It would be huge.”
