Live, running blog of Indiana basketball vs Minnesota Golden Gophers in the Hoosiers tenth game of the 2024-25 season.

Indiana basketball kicks off Big Ten play with the Hoosiers hosting the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Indiana is coming off a win over Miami (OH) last Friday.

The Gophers enter the game with a record of 6-4 under fourth-year head coach Ben Johnson. Fifth-year senior forward Dawson Garcia leads Minnesota at 19.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.0 steal in 34.0 minutes per game. Fifth-year senior guard Lu’cye Patterson adds 10.0 points and 3.9 assists per game.

Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. ET and will be on BTN.

Below is the full live blog.

Pregame Notes:

Kanaan Carlyle will play tonight.

Oumar Ballo is Questionable.

Gabe Cupps is OUT.

First half:

Minnesota wins the tip.

Dawson Garcia gets the first points of the game. Gophers up 2-0.

Malik Reneau answers back. Defensive stop then another Reneau bucket.

Defensive stop and Rice finds Ballo in transition. 6-2 Indiana basketball.

Minnesota ties it up with a couple buckets. Indiana turnover at the 17:05 mark.

Ballo fouled. He goes 1-2.

Minn extends the lead to five before Mgbako knocked down his first three.

Back on the other end, a loose ball resulted in Oumar Ballo diving on the floor for the ball, saving it and then causing Minn to turn it over. Awesome play.

Under-16 Media Timeout: Minnesota 12, Indiana basketball 10. 

Buddy ball action to start this next stretch. Ballo to Reneau.

Myles Rice with a weird unforced turnover. Mike Woodson called timeout because of it. Not happy.

Goode and Carlyle in for Ballo and Galloway.

Mgbako goes 2-2 at the line.

Under-12 Media timeout: Minnesota 22, Indiana basketball 20

Carlyle missed three but a nice offensive rebound by Tucker with an offensive put-back.

Indiana forces a turnover on the other end. Need to try and get a run going.

Bryson Tucker playing some of his best minutes in awhile. Been real productive off the bench so far.

Ballo fouled. Goes 2-2 this time.

Goode drives in and finds Tucker for a smooth baseline jumper.

Defensive stop leads to Galloway finding Bryson Tucker for the reverse layup. The freshman is up to 8 points so far. Hooping!

Minnesota obvs has a game plan of being as physical as possible with Oumar Ballo. Be really all over him. Doing a good job at getting to the line but not as active on the glass as you want him to be.

Myles Rice a little shaken up right now. Getting checked out on the bench.

Ballo 5-7 at the stripe tonight.

Not as good of a showing from Galloway tonight. 4 turnovers to 3 assists. No points either.

Tucker checks in for Galloway after Galloway picks up his second foul.

Under 4 Media Timeout: Indiana basketball 36, Minnesota 26

Kanaan Carlyle with a pull-up three.

Minnesota with their 7the turnover. Indiana’s justly tonight has been fantastic.

Tucker misses a tough layup and we go into the half.

At the half: Indiana basketball 44, Minnesota 31

Second Half

Indiana basketball with the ball to start the half.

Reneau gets fouled quickly by Garcia. Minnesota would end forcing a shot clock violation. First time all night the offense looked slow.

Myles Rice rebound then zooms to the other end of the floor to get layup.

Reneau with another bucket. Ballo picks dup a first foul.

Galloway fouled. He got 0-2.

Reneau gets his 14th point tonight. Hoosiers up 50-33.

Indiana leads 50-33 with 15:48 left.

Minnesota cuts the lead to 15.

Gophers hit their last three shots.

Trey Galloway took a BIG charge from Dawson Garcia.

Carlyle with his 2nd three of the night. Assist from Reneau.

Timeout Minnesota. Indiana basketball leads 55-14. 

Indiana has only allowed 19 points since 11:42 in the 1st half but still can’t pull away, just hovering around a 15 pt lead

Carlyle picks up a foul.

Tucker with a smooth pull up jumper. Next play he would get fouled and we head into the media break. 59-45 Indiana basketball with 11:31 left.

Tucker goes 2-2 at the line.

Goode baseline jumper is good.

Rice with an insane behind the back pass to Tucker then finds Carlyle for a dribble pull-up and gets fouled. He converts at the line.

Carlyle picks up his 4th foul. Hate to see that with how well he has been tonight. Mgbako subs in for him.

Bryson Tucker turnover and Mike Woodson calls timeout. Indiana basketball up 68-51 with 8:10 to go. 

Tucker foul. Gophers in the bonus.

Ballo fouled. He goes 2-2.

Hoosiers falling asleep here. Need to wake up and finish strong.

Reneau went 1-2 at the lien. Mgbako got the offensive rebound and put it back up. 3 point swing there.

Minnesota timeout. Indiana basketball leads 73-71 with 6:03 left.

Galloway with a post-up move and gets him to the line. He goes 1-2 at the line.

Final Media Timeout: Indiana basketball 75, Minnesota 59

Tucker at the line. He goes 1-2.

Min scores then Reneau finds Ballo to answer back. Minn then cuts it to 15 with 2:51 left.

Minn fouls Reneau hard when crossed half court. He goes 1-2.

Goode checks in for Tucker.
