Indiana Basketball narrowly survived an early Saturday afternoon battle against Chattanooga winning 74-65.
The Hoosiers lacked energy from the start and it showed on the defensive end. Chattanooga guard Honor Huff torched the IU defense scoring a game-high 20 points while shooting 6-13 from the field and 6-12 from three.
The Hoosiers’ defensive energy picked up in the second half, but a cold shooting stretch kept the Mocs within striking distance.
Forwards Malik Reneau and Mackenzie Mgbako led the way offensively for Indiana basketball and ultimately helped the Hoosiers grind out the win over the Mocs.
Reneau finished the game with 14 points, eight rebounds, and four assists in the win. He shot 7-12 from the field and had a block, and three steals on the defensive end while battling foul trouble.
Mgbako scored 14 points and added four rebounds while shooting 5-7 from the field and 3-4 from three.
Oumar Ballo did a little bit of everything for the Hoosiers as he had nine points, eight rebounds, and four assists in the win. Ballo’s improved free throw shooting continued today as he shot 5-7 from the line for the Hoosiers.
Myles Rice struggled for IU basketball as he finished the game with four points while shooting 2-8 from the field, but scored a key bucket late to help secure the win. Rice also added three assists and three rebounds for the Hoosiers.
The bench had a solid contribution for Indiana basketball as nine of the ten Hoosiers to play scored in the game. Kanaan Carlyle and Bryson Tucker led the scoring off the bench.
Tucker led the bench unit with nine points and three rebounds while shooting 3-5 from the field. Carlyle added eight points, two rebounds, a block, and a steal in the game.
Luke Goode added five points and five rebounds off the bench but shot just 1-4 from three.
The Hoosiers struggled from beyond the arc as a team shooting just 5-20 from three in the win while Chattanooga shot 10-28 from three.
Indiana natives Trey Galloway and Anthony Leal also contributed on both ends for Indiana basketball.
Galloway battled early foul trouble but finished the game with eight points and four assists. Leal added three points, a block, and a steal off the bench.
With the win Indiana basketball improves to 9-3 with the win and will have eight days off before playing their final non-conference game of the season against Winthrop in Bloomington before the end of the year.
