Indiana Basketball and their Big Ten Tournament hopes were squashed on Thursday as the Hoosiers were eliminated in their opening game 72-59 to Oregon in Indianapolis.

With a chance to help secure a spot in the NCAA Tournament, the Hoosiers could not handle business against the Ducks.

Trey Galloway led the way in the losing effort scoring 15 points, with nine assists and four rebounds in what could be his final game as a Hoosier.

Malik Reneau had a big game off the bench scoring a team-high 19 points on 8-15 from the field.

Anthony Leal had another one of his signature all-around performances with four points, eight rebounds, and three steals in the loss.

After a 2-10 performance in the last matchup against Oregon, Mackenzie Mgbako had a much better game today. Mgbako scored 12 points on 5-10 from the field with five rebounds.

Oumar Ballo and Luke Goode struggled in the loss. Ballo scored eight points with eight rebounds but had four turnovers and shot just 4-11 from the field. Goode finished with just a single point while shooting 0-5 from the field.

As a team, Indiana Basketball shot 25-69 (36.2%) from the field while Oregon shot 26-53 (49.1%) in this one.

A big issue for the Hoosiers was their inability to finish at the rim. They converted just 13-27 of their layup attempts against the Ducks defense.

Oregon used their three-point shooting to separate in the win. They shot 8-20 from three while Indiana basketball was 4-16 from beyond the arc.

Jackson Shelstad led the way for Oregon scoring 18 points. TJ Bamba added 17 and Brandon Angel had 14 for the Ducks.

While he struggled to score the ball, Nate Bittle had seven points, with eight rebounds, six assists, three steals, and two blocks in the win.

With the loss, Indiana basketball will have to wait until Sunday to learn their fate. As it stands they are projected to sit right on the bubble and will need to avoid any potential bid stealers if they are going to find their way into the NCAA Tournament.
