It was a great night down south in Borden, Indiana for Hoosier Nation as both Indiana basketball head coach Mike Woodson and Indiana football head coach Curt Cignetti got to address the media and fans at Huber’s Winery.
While Cignetti has spoken to media a little this offseason, this was the first time that Mike Woodson was made available to the public since the Hoosiers’ exit from the Big Ten tournament a few months ago.
At the event, Mike Woodson was able to give an update on Indiana basketball senior guard Trey Galloway following his offseason surgery on a torn meniscus.
“Well again he is going through rehab and you know he is not ready to play yet on the floor, but we’re hoping and thinking he’s going to be back ready to go once the season starts,” Indiana basketball head coach Mike Woodson said when speaking to the media at Huber’s Winery.
“We got 8 weeks here coming up starting June the 3rd, well into July, you know hopefully by then he’ll be ready to play.”
Galloway was last seen on the floor in Indiana basketball’s final regular season vs Michigan State this past season. He did not play in Indiana’s two postseason games in the Big Ten Tournament. He left around the mid-way mark of the first half in the Michigan State game.
According to HoosierIllustrated.com sources, Galloway has actually been dealing with this injury since earlier in the 2022-23 season. Those sources also state that Galloway chose to ‘tough it out’ due to the ongoing inactivity of Xavier Johnson these past two years.
On senior night, Galloway announced that he would be returning for his fifth season for Indiana basketball.
“It means a lot,” Mike Woodson said on senior night. “As a senior that’s what I expect you to do. You know, you go through four years with the program, you grow. You’re supposed to grow every year. If you don’t grow then I haven’t done a great job in coaching. He’s grown and he’s helped us a lot this year in so many ways because we haven’t had Xavier Johnson, the other senior.”
Trey Galloway averaged 10.8 points, 2.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game. He is one of four Indiana basketball players with three games of 11+ assists in a career, joining Isiah Thomas, Jamal Meeks and Michael Lewis, doing so all in the last six games.
