Indiana basketball wrapped up its trip to The Bahamas on Friday with an 89-73 win over Providence to finish the week 1-2 with double-digit losses to Louisville and Gonzaga.

Indiana was without starting guard Kanaan Carlyle in its win over Providence, however. The sophomore and first-year player with the Hoosiers was listed as questionable coming into the game after playing and starting in the first two games.

“Don’t know,” Indiana basketball head coach Mike Woodson said about the severity. “He’s day-to-day. So we’ll just see. He couldn’t move today so we shut him down.”

Carlyle played 14 minutes and was scoreless going 0-for-2 from the field against Louisville. He had six points on 2-of-8 shooting against Gonzaga in 22 minutes.

The former double-digit scorer for Stanford has struggled to find his role on the offensive end of the floor this season. Through six games, Carlyle is averaging 4.5 points on 27 percent shooting from the floor and 25 percent from three. He’s also averaging 2.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game this season.

Carlyle’s best game this season — and only game scoring in double figures — was against South Carolina. He had 12 points on 5-of-9 from the floor in 24 minutes. The other five games he’s combined for just 15 points on 5-of-28 from the field.

He’s also been held scoreless in two games.

As a freshman at Stanford, Carlyle averaged 11.5 points on 38.6 percent shooting.

Senior guard Trey Galloway started in place of Carlyle, getting his first start of the season. He had his best game, by far, scoring 18 points on 7-of-12 from the field with five rebounds and five assists. He was also 3-of-4 from three.

“This morning, he got up and said it was probably the best he’s felt in a long time,” Woodson said of Galloway. “And that was good news to my ears, knowing that Kanaan (Carlyle) wasn’t going to play. It’s easy to slide him into the starting lineup because I’ve been with him.”

After this past week, Indiana is 5-2. It takes the floor again on Tuesday in Bloomington against Sam Houston.
