After trailing 63-53 with under 10 minutes left, Myles Rice and Indiana basketball made a big push to take the lead late in the game.
With Indiana leading by two Trey Galloway missed the front end of a one-and-one. On the ensuing possession, Rodney Rice buried a three to take the lead with under 10 seconds left.
Indiana was unable to get a good look on the final possession as Myles Rice was forced to take a contested three in the final seconds of the game.
With the loss Indiana drops to 14-7 on the season and 5-5 in Big Ten play.
Rice had a big second half for Indiana basketball as he led the comeback effort. After scoring just two points in the first half, Rice scored 14 points on 5-9 from the field in the second half. He also added three assists in the losing effort.
After a strong performance against Northwestern, Mackenzie Mgbako had another big game for the Hoosiers. Mgbako finished with 16 points and five rebounds while shooting 7-12 from the field.
Oumar Ballo made his presence felt on the interior for the Hoosiers. Ballo had another double-double, scoring 14 points with 10 rebounds. He also had three assists, a block, and two steals.
Maryland won the rebounding battle 35-32, but Indiana basketball had 14 offensive rebounds in the game.
Anthony Leal provided a major spark for the Hoosiers with six points and five rebounds but was huge defensively for Indiana.
After coming off the bench in his return against Northwestern, Malk Reneau returned to the starting lineup against Maryland with Luke Goode moved back to the bench. Reneau scored 10 points with six rebounds but shot just 5-14 from the field.
Luke Goode provided a spark off the bench scoring eight points while shooting 2-3 from three.
As a team, Indiana basketball shot 7-17 from three while Maryland shot 12-24 from distance.
Maryland’s starting five accounted for all but two points in this game with four starters scoring double-figures.
Maryland was led by Rodney Rice who scored a game-high 23 points while hitting five threes including the game-winner.
Ja’Kobi Gillespie added 18 points and nine assists for the Terps while Julian Reese had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in the win.
As a team, Indiana basketball struggled from the free throw line shooting just 9-15 from the line including some critical misses late in this one.
Indiana basketball will have four days to reset before they travel up to West Lafayette to face Purdue.
