Indiana Basketball: 2024 top-40 target set to make decision in ‘mid or late’ October

As the summer winds down, recruiting visits pick up and college decision begin to be announced. For the Indiana basketball program, it has already hosted numerous top-40 prospects for visits and is now looking to jumpstart its 2024 class.

Top-40 wing Tyler Betsey from St. Thomas More (Ct.) is one of those prospects who visited Indiana this summer. Now, he has an expected timeline in mind for his decision.

Betsey told Adam Zagoria of Zagsblog.com, that he’s eyeing an October decision.

“My commitment, I think it’s going to be in October, mid or late,” Betsey said.

As of now, Betsey has taken official visits to Indiana, UConn and Creighton. He is looking to take an official visit to Duke this fall.

Playing for NY Rens on the Nike EYBL circuit, Betsey has helped lead his team into the Quarterfinals. In five games at Peach Jam, Betsey is averaging 13.0 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. He is shooting 35.6 percent (16-of-45) from three. During 16 regular season games, he averaged 11.6 points and 2.8 rebounds per game while shooting 35.1 percent (40-of-114) from three.

At 6-foot-8, Betsey is a versatile wing who is known as a shooter. He is a high-volume shooter who is very good off of the catch. He’s improving off of the dribble as well and has shown more of an ability to create plays for himself.

247Sports National Recruiting Director Eric Bossi broke down Betsey’s game from earlier this summer.

“At nearly 6-foot-8 with smooth athleticism and a good-looking jumper, it was pretty clear that he has all of the tools to make a move towards the top of the class and he’s one of those kids who seems like he could end up ranked as high as he decides he wants to be.”

Betsey is ranked the No. 36 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He is the No. 1 player in Connecticut.

Currently, Betsey has offers from Indiana, Duke, Alabama, Kansas, UConn, Cincinnati, Auburn, Rutgers, Michigan State, Providence and others.
