Indiana basketball continues its 124th season of competition in men’s basketball with a Saturday afternoon showdown against No. 2 Kansas. This is the second game of the a home-and-home series that started last season. The Hoosiers are coming off a 28-point loss to Auburn last Saturday in Atlanta and are looking to get their first signature win of the 2023-24 season.

Kansas (9-1) enters the game on a five-game winning streak and holds wins over Kentucky (89-84), Tennessee (69-60), UConn (69-65), and Missouri (73-64) this season. Senior center Hunter Dickinson, a Michigan transfer, leads the Jayhawks in scoring (19.4 points per game), rebounding (12.6), and total blocks (13). Fifth-year senior guard Kevin McCullar Jr. has produced a pair of triple-doubles this season and is averaging 19.0 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 5.0 assists a night.

Xavier Johnson remains out — missing his fourth consecutive game with a foot injury.

Gabe Cupps miss leads to a Reneau rebound and score. Hoosiers up 4-0.

Malik Reneau picks up his first foul.

Trey Galloway drive and score in transition. Tough take there. He did it again.

Kansas timeout. Indiana up 8-2.

Kansas scores out of the break.

Galloway gets fouled on the drive attempt. Been real aggressive there. He went 1-2 at the line.

Malik Reneau hits his first three attempt. Wide-open.

Under-16 media timeout: Indiana basketball 12, Kansas 6. 

Starters remain on the floor for Indiana after the timeout.

Kansas hits a three out of the break. 12-9 Indiana basketball.

Indiana has absolutely no answer for Kansas forward KJ Adams so far. He is getting anything he wants around the rim.

Mgbako gets fouled and goes 2-2 at the line.

Galloway picks up his first foul.

Cupps picks up his first foul.

Mgbako gets fouled and scores through contact. He misses the free throw, however.

Gabe Cupps got a steal but a travel was called on Trey Galloway.

Turnover out of the break for Indiana leads to a Kansas three.

Reneau answers with a three.

KJ Adams picks up his 2nd foul for Kansas. Big chance for Indiana with him out of the game. Walker would go 1-2 at the line.

CJ Gunn in for Gabe Cupps. Ware in for Reneau.

Walker gets fouled again. He would go 2-2 at the line.

Jump ball call leads to a media timeout. 24-19 Indiana basketball with 7:59 left in the half. 

Trouble for Indiana. Reneau picks up his 2nd foul. Probably done for the half.

Ware and Mgbako back in.

Indiana in the bonus. CJ Gunn would miss his first free throw attempt.

Ware gets fouled. Goes 1-2 at the line.

Kel’el Ware with a monster put-back. Galloway gets a steal and a goaltending is called on Kansas. Indiana up 29-21.

Mgbako three.

The Hoosiers are ROLLING right now. 8-0 run the last 1:23. With an odd Kansas lineup in, Indiana took advantage.

Mgabko gets fouled again. He goes 2-2 at the line. He would then pick up his 2nd foul. Banks back in.

Under-4 Media timeout: Indiana 34, Kansas 22.

Kansas scores out of the break. Indiana was in a zone. Galloway answers.

Mike Woodson timeout at the 2:26 mark.

Slashing to the basket Trey Galloway is the best Trey Galloway.

At the half: Indiana basketball 40, Kansas 32.

 

Second Half

Ware fouled. He hits both free throws. Kevin McCullar Jr. just picked up his 3rd foul.

Ware got the steal but lost the ball in transition. Missed opportunity there for Indiana. Kansas answered with a three.

Malik Reneau picks up his 3rd foul.

Indiana basketball opens the half on a 2:32 scoring drought.

Mackenzie Mgabko drains a three. Great screen from Ware there.

Steal by Walker leads to a Galloway three in transition. Kansas timeout.

Hoosiers up 48-37 at the 15:46 mark. 

Kansas misses a three out of the break. Ware rebound. Galloway gets an easy layup to drop.

Indiana 50-41 with 14:00 left.

Ware fouled, hit both FTs.

Hunter Dickinson airball. Crowd is going to eat that up.

Media timeout at the 11:44 mark: Indiana basketball 54, Kansas 44. 

Kansas bucket out of the break.

With that bucket, Trey Galloway has surpassed his career high in points. He is up to 22 points in this game.

Mackenzie Mgbako picks up his 4th foul. Not good for Indiana. 10:07 left.

Kansas starting to find some offensive rhythm.

Timeout Mike Woodson. Indiana only leads 58-55 with 8:39 left.

Reenau gets fouled. He would go 1-2 at the line. Kevin McCullar Jr. now has 4 fouls for Kansas and will stay in the game.

Under-8 media timeout: Indiana basketball 59, Kansas 55. 

Kansas hit a three to bring the Indiana lead down to 59-58.

Big bucket by Gabe Cupps there.

Jump ball called. Kansas keeps ball.

Indiana’s defense has been extremely tough but whistles have bailed Kansas out this stretch.

Kansas takes its first lead of the game. Reneau responds.

Galloway with two shots out of the break.

Galloway misses the first, makes the second. Tie game.

Kansas hits a huge three.

Kansas takes the lead to 5.

Trey Galloway three. Kansas up 71-69 with 40 sec left.

Trey Galloway would miss the three to take the lead.

Kansas missed the free throw but Ware could not grab it.

Two free throws by Kansas extends the lead, 73-69. Indiana ball with 13.1 seconds left.

Kel’el Ware cuts the lead back to two, followed by Trey Galloway’s fifth foul. He finishes with 28 points on 12-of-17 from the field.
