Live, running blog of Indiana basketball vs Penn State in the Hoosiers 17th Big Ten game of the 2024-25 season.

Indiana basketball returns to action tonight as they host Big Ten opponent Penn State. The Hoosiers are coming off a massive win over in-state rival Purdue as they snapped a four game home losing streak against them in a 15-point win on Sunday.

The Nittany Lions enter the game with a record of 15-13 (5-12 Big Ten) under second-year head coach Mike Rhoades. Penn State has won two-straight games after losing their previous seven. PSU has five players averaging at least double-figures , led by 13.7 points, 7.3 assists, and 2.3 steals per game from fifth-year senior guard Ace Baldwin Jr., the reigning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. Junior forward Yanic Konan Niederhauser leads the team in rebounding at 6.2 per contest to go along with 12.9 points.

Tipoff is set for 8:30 pm on BTN.

C- Oumar Ballo

First half:

Penn State wins the tip. Penn State gets a bucket.

Ballo got fouled. He goes 1-2 at the line.

Penn State scores again in the paint.

Penn State banks in a three. Lions up 7-1.

Mgbako gets fouled. He would go 0-2 at the line however.

Luke Goode hits a much needed three for Indiana. Assist from Leal.

Ballo is getting eaten up on defense.

Aggressive Mackenzie Mgabko is out tonight. Has been really strong attacking the lanes and cutting.

Leal bucket from a pass to Ballo. Hoosiers down 1.

Goode picks up a foul and we go to break.

Penn State leads Indiana basketball 9-8 at the 15:01 mark. 

Myles Rice checks in for Luke Goode. He got called for a travel first play.

Galloway ties it at 10.

Galloway then steals it and slams it.

Rice draws a foul. He goes 2-2 at the line. Hatton checks in for Ballo.

Trey Galloway gets called for a foul. Very late and there did not look to be much.

Indiana basketball showed great ball movement which led to Luke Goode knocking down his 2nd three.

Hatton would pick up a foul and we would go to break.

Indiana basketball lead 17-14 with 11:52 left in the half. 

Penn State would take the lead 18-17 off an Ace Baldwin three.

Penn State now up 22-17. Hoosiers have gone cold.

Rice with a great save off a Carlyle miss led to Mgbako getting fouled on a layup attempt. He would go 0-2 again.

Carlyle with a reverse layup to get Indiana basketball a bucket. He would follow it up with a three. Tie game again.

Indiana would turn it over.

Penn State takes the lead back again. Hoosiers can’t get a run going.

Penn State back up 5. Mike Woodson calls timeout.

Ballo slam out of the quick break.

Mgbako hits a three to tie it up.

Last Media Timeout of the half: Penn State 29, Indiana basketball 29

Goode to Ballo for the slam and Indiana basketball is back up.

Penn State would answer and hit a jumper.

Penn State calls timeout. Lions up 37-35 with 30.4 left in the half.

Ballo gets a bucket at the buzzer.

At the half: Penn State 39, Indiana basketball 37

Second Half

Indiana basketball to start. Ballo misses a hook shot.

Ballo misses an another one. Hoosiers get a steal but they turn it over.

Penn State up 4.

Galloway hits a much needed three.

Ballo picks up a foul. Penn State back up 3.

Ballo finds a cutting Mgbako for the baseline slam. Indiana followed

After a Mgbako score, Rice would get a warning for a delay of game.

Galloway would find Ballo and he would score and get the bucket.

Under-16 Media Timeout: Penn State leads 49-46

Ballo makes the free throw.

Myles Rice hits a three. Hoosiers down 1.

Hoosiers get a steal. Ballo finds Rice for the easy cut and layup. Rice follows it up with forcing PSU to turn the ball over.

Refs called two terrible fouls on Galloway back-to-back.

PSU took the lead back.

Ballo gets fouled. He goes 1-2. Tied game.

Tied at 53 with 11:59 left.

PSU takes the lead back. Up 2.

Mgbako ties it back up with a baseline jumper.

Ace Baldwin hits a three. Galloway answers with a three.

Baldwin hit 3 free throws. PSU up 5.

Indiana basketball now in the bonus. Leal foes 2-2 at the line. Rice checks in for him.

Ballo gets the bucket plus the foul. We go to break.

Penn State leads 65-62 with 7:45 left.

Ballo would make the free throw.

Penn State slam. Goode drives and gets fouled. He goes 2-2 at the line. Hoosiers down 2.

Ballo ties it.

Penn State takes the lead but then Galloway knocks down a three to give the Hoosiers their first lead of the second half.

Hoosiers would get a steal. Rice would bobble the ball around and then Galloway would hit another three. 73-69.

Penn State timeout with 5:12 left. Hoosiers on a 6-0 run.

Hoosiers get a stop and Leal was fouled going for the rebound. He goes 2-2 at the line. Hoosiers up 6.

Penn State hits a three. Hoosiers only up 3.

Myles Rice was down on the floor for a bit. Holding his lower back. Penn State coach was up in the refs face while Rice was down on the ground next to him. Do not know how a Tech was not called there.

Penn State was called for a travel. We go to break.

Indiana basketball up 75-72 with 3:59 to play.

Rice turns the ball over.

Myles Rice hits a big three to push Indiana up 5. Indiana basketball gets a steal and Galloway finds Rice out in transition for the layup. Just like that, Indiana is up 80-73. Timeout Penn State with 2:32 left.

Penn State hits a big three. Galloway would airball a jumper.

Galloway misses a three but Ballo gets the rebound. Rice gets fouled.

Rice would miss the first free throw….makes the 2nd. Hoosiers up 81-76.

Rice would get called for a foul. Baldwin would hit two. Indiana only up 3.

Rice gets fouled with 31.7 left. He would go 0-2.

Indiana got a big stop. Luke Goode would get fouled. He would make the first one. PSU would call timeout. Goode would then make the 2nd. Indiana up 5. 11.2 left.

Hoosiers get a stop. Indiana basketball with the win.
