Live, running blog of Indiana basketball vs Illinois in the Hoosiers seventh Big Ten game of the 2024-25 season.

Indiana basketball continues Big Ten Conference play in its 125th season of competition against No. 13/15 Illinois at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Hoosiers are coming off their second loss in the Big Ten season at Iowa last Saturday.

The Fighting Illini enter the game with a record of 12-4 (4-2 Big Ten) under eighth-year head coach Brad Underwood. Illinois ranks seventh in the country (second in the B1G) in scoring offense at 86.9 points per game while allowing just 67.2 points per outing on the defensive end. The Illini receive double-digit scoring efforts from five players and are led by freshman guard Kasparas Jakucionis. The projected lottery pick has missed the last two games (forearm) but has averaged 16.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per contest. He shoots 49.6% from the floor, 41.4% from behind the arc, and 87.5% from the free throw line.

Tipoff is set for 7:00 PM on Peacock.

Mgbako misses a little runner by Ballo gets the tip in.

Illinois extends lead to 10-6.

A pretty dish off from Ballo to a cutting Rice.

Galloway missed three out of the break.

Illinois extends lead to 14-8. Hoosiers on a 2:30 scoring drought.

Illinois dunk and they lead now 16-8.

Indiana is all out of sorts right now. Really ugly possessions on offense.

Scoring drought up to 4:22 for Indiana. 20-8 lead for Illinois.

Bryson Tucker finally gets a bucket.

Illinois leads 25-10. This is bad.

Illinois leading 15-6 on rebounds. Pathetic effort on the glass by Indiana.

Illinois leads 27-12 with 10:43 left in the half. 

Leal goes 2-2 at the line out of the break.

Leal got called for second foul a few plays later.

Indiana is playing some really bad basketball right now. Horrible on both ends of the floor. Down 19 points at home.

Indiana is down 40-18 at home. Illinois cannot miss a shot.

Illinois three puts the lead to 43-20.

Illinois is shooting 50% from three.

Ballo fouled. We go to break.

Illinois leads 52-24. 3:54 in the half. 

Ballo goes 2-2 at the line.

Rice floater drops but then he picks up a foul.

Indiana cuts the lead 55-30. Ballo got fouled in a post up. He missed the front end of a 1and1 but it was out via Illinois.

Galloway fouled. He goes 2-2 at the line.

At the half: Illinois 60, Indiana basketball 32

Second Half

Illinois with the ball out of the break. They miss a shot, Ballo gets the rebound.

Goode gets a baseline jumper to drop.

Galloway gets a floater to drop.

Another miss by Illinois. Rice speeds down the floor and gets fouled. Illinois got called for tech. Rice hits the the technical free throws. All 4.

Indiana has cut the lead to 20 and fans are going nuts. 

Goode gets fouled on a jumper. Hits both free throws.

Indiana rebounding the ball much better.

Galloway has got to sit at this point. As a senior, his play is embarrassing.

Illinois leads 64-42 with 15:23 left.

Couple bunnies missed by Rice and Mgbako. Ballo cleans them up and gets a bucket. Hoosiers till down 20.

Mgbako fouled. He goes 2-2.

Galloway and Goode miss a couple threes. Illinois extends lead back to 21. 11:50 to play. 

Goode with back-to-back fouls.

Leal got fouled going for a rebound. He went 1-2 at the line.

Indiana is 0-11 from three right now.

Illinois leads 75-51 with 9:14 left to play.

At this point, a running clock would be nice.

Under-8 Media Timeout: Illinois 79, Indiana basketball 51

Illinois on an 8-0 run while Indiana has made just one of its last 10 field goal attempts. Illinois continuing to pound on Indiana. Illinois up 79-51, 7:34 remains in regulation.
