Hoosier Illustrated Live Blog: Final: Indiana basketball 74, Chattanooga 65

Indiana basketball will return to non-conference play in its 125th season of competition against Chattanooga on Saturday, Dec. 21, at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The Hoosiers are coming off a road loss to Nebraska last week.

The Mocs enter the game with a record of 8-4 under third-year head coach Dan Earl. Chattanooga receives double figure scoring from a trio of guards: senior Trey Bonham (13.8 points per game), junior Honor Huff (12.5), and fifth-year Bash Wieland (11.6). The Mocs make 9.2 3-pointers per contest and shoot the long ball at 31.3% aa a team.

First half:

Indiana basketball wins the tip and the jumper is good by Myles Rice.

A couple of misses by Indiana basketball but Oumar Ballo scores plus the foul. He converts the Free throw.

Chattanooga takes the lead. Reneau answers back with his first bucket.

Mocs extend the lead to 11-9.

Mgbako hits a three.

Media Timeout. Mocs lead 13-12. 

Mocs extend the lead to 15-12.

Three by Chattanooga gives them a 18-12 lead.

Mgbako cuts to the basket and Ballo finds him for the easy two.

Mgbako missed three but Goode gets the rebound and puts it back in.

Chattanooga leads 21-16 at the next media timeout. 

Carlyle scores out of the break.

Reneau finds and open Goode for a three.

Indiana really struggling on the defensive glass.

Indiana basketball has made 5 of their last 6 shots but the defense is the issue like it has been.

Galloway gets a flatter to drop.

Carlyle jumper gives Indiana basketball the lead.

Ballo gets fouled after a weird pass from Galloway.

Mocs extends their lead 35-31. Leal takes it to the backset and gets a bucket.

Under-4 Media Timeout: Chattanooga leads 37-33. 

There was a review on a possible goal tend on Mgbako. They determined it was not a goal tend. Indiana basketball would force a shot clock violation.

Ballo finds Mgbako for a three and he gives Indiana basketball the lead.

Indiana basketball extends the lead to 37-35.

Chattanooga ties it up and Indiana basketball with an unforced turnover.

Dribble pull-up from Carlyle and we go to halftime.

At the half: Indiana basketball 41, Chattanooga 38

Second Half:

Indiana basketball with the ball to start the half.

Rice misses a corner three but Renaue makes a big hustle play for the offensive board and then finds a bucket.

Back-to-back threes from Indiana basketball. Mgbako then Galloway.

Indiana basketball gets a stop and then Ballo gets an easy bucket. Chattanooga calls timeout. 16:46 to go.

Indiana basketball leads 53-48 at the 15:00 mark. 

Ballo goes 2-2 at the line. Indiana needs stops.

Indiana basketball forces shot clock violation again.

Tucker comes and they run an inbounds play for him and he knocks down a 15fter.

Malik Reneau caught a body and slammed it over a defender to extend the lead to 61-48.

Tucker gets fouled on a turnaround jumper but got fouled. We head into the media timeout.

Indiana basketball leads 61-51 with 11:23 to go.

Tucker goes 1-2 at the line.

Langdon got called for an illegal screen.

Chattanooga hits a three and the IU lead is cut to just 64-59.

Hoosiers up to 8 turnovers.

Galloway goes 1-2 at the line. Hoosiers have not been super great at the line tonight.

Mgbako strong take and gets the score. Mocs call timeout. IU 67-61 with 2:40 left.

Hoosiers get a stop but then Reneau turns the ball over.

Leal checks in for Mgbako.

Mike Woodson calls timeout. Hoosiers up 67-63 with 1:23 left.

Indiana 1 of their last 10 from the field.

Rice gets a quick bucket. Hoosiers get a stop and then a wide open Galloway gets a bucket. Hoosiers up 8.
