Former Indiana basketball forward OG Anunoby made history in his first three games with the New York Knicks.
Anunoby became the first player in NBA History to have a plus/minus of over 70 in their first three games with a new team. He was a +74 in his first three games with the Knicks.
“I think we have a good core that’s been together for a while now. So I think that can absorb people coming in and then a guy like OG is very serious,” Knicks coach Tom Thibdoeau said about Anunoby’s addition. “He wants to do well, and I think his mind is open. He plays incredibly hard on every possession, so even if it’s not perfect right now, it’s still gonna be good.”
After spending his first six seasons in Toronto, Anunoby has made an instant impact with the Knicks who are 3-0 since his arrival. The Knicks have beaten the Minnesota Timberwolves who top the Western Conference along with double-digit wins over the Philadelphia 76ers and Chicago Bulls.
“Your hustle can make up for a lot. And that’s really what he’s doing. And each day, he’ll get better and better and guys are starting to figure him out, as well,” Thibdoeau said about the adjustment. “So that takes a little bit of time. But help where you can, hustle, be in passing lanes, get deflections, help out on the boards, play physical, run the floor, move without the ball.”
The former Indiana basketball forward is averaging 13.0 points and 5.3 rebounds while providing stellar defense in his first three games with his new team. As he continues to adjust to his new team and teammates, Anunoby will only get more comfortable with his new team.
