College football fans got another sneak peak of the new EA Sports College Football 25 game on Friday as it released a ‘Gameplay Deep Dive’ which showcased more in-depth video of the user experience. To the delight of many local fans, Indiana football was part of the preview.
During the video, ratings of nearly two dozen teams were shown and one of those was of the Indiana football program. While the ratings shown ‘are not final’ and are ‘subject to change’ Indiana’s current rates are:
Overall – 74
Offense – 67
Defense – 74
Some other notable programs shown were Clemson (95 overall), Michigan (93), Illinois (87), North Carolina (87), Minnesota (85), Michigan State (85), Iowa (85), Maryland (85), among others.
While the overall rating for Indiana seems about right at the moment, the offensive and defensive ratings seem a bit off.
Curt Cignetti and his offensive staff have put up some of the most explosive offenses in the nation over the last few years.
In his first year at James Madison the Dukes led the nation in total defense (270.2 yards), third in scoring offense (40.0 points), scoring defense (15.7) and rushing defense (74.8) and 10th in total offense (465.8) and rushing offense (242.9).
Last year, the first year at the FBS level, James Madison ranked top 15 in 12 different categories. That included second in rushing defense (79.5 yards), tackles for loss per game (8.6) and first downs allowed per contest (13.8). They ranked fourth in sacks per game (3.5), fifth in total defense (289.5 yards), sixth in third down defense (.284) and time of possession (33:44). Additionally, seventh in both yards per completion (14.5) and fumble recoveries (13), 13th in scoring offense (37.0 points) and 14th in both takeaways (24) and pick-sixes (2).
Cignetti has had three straight terrific quarterbacks as well and Kurtis Rourke could be the next potential star in his offensive system.
Since 2021, the last three quarterbacks to play for Cignetti (Cole Johnson, Todd Centeio and Jordan McCloud) have combined for 10,816 yards, 119 touchdowns and just 18 interceptions.
Indiana football also brings in some of the most experienced and talented wide receivers in the Big Ten — headlined by Donaven McCulley and James Madison standout transfer Elijah Sarratt. Indiana also landed three power five transfer wide receivers that have combined for 373 receptions for 4,437 yards and 23 touchdowns in their careers.
EA Sports is set to release the video game on July 16, 2024.
