2024 five-star point guard Boogie Fland is wrapping up his recruitment this week and it’s a battle until the end between two of the most historically rich programs in college basketball; Indiana basketball and Kentucky basketball.
While Fland has a top three of Indiana, Kentucky and Alabama, Indiana and Kentucky are the clear 1A and 1B options. Fland is set to make his announcement at 2:00 pm on Friday afternoon at his high school, Archbishop Stepinac (NY).
Fland had a terrific junior season and it carried over into the summer playing for the PSA Cardinals on the Nike EYBL Circuit. During his high school season he averaged 18.1 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.0 steals per game as a junior. He shot 34.6 percent from three (62-of-179). In the summer he averaged 15.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.8 assist per game during the regular season.
His play continued this fall when he was a clear standout at the USA Basketball minicamp earlier this month. Going up against some of the top talent in the country regardless of also, Boogie Fland was one of the top players, if not the top.
“From the start of the day, you couldn’t help but notice Boogie Fland. His energy in every drill and game was very notable but it wasn’t just his energy and engagement throughout that stood out,” 247Sports National recruiting Analyst Travis Branham wrote. “In competitive drills and games, Fland was making an impact on both ends of the floor. He was competing on defense, crashing the glass, pushing the ball up the floor and creating and making shots from deep. Fland seemed to make the right play each time the ball touched his hand today.”
The 6-foot-2 guard is exceptional with the ball in his hands. He can play both on and off the ball and does a terrific job creating scoring opportunities for himself. He’s a quick-twitch and lanky athlete who does a good job getting to his spots on the floor. His midrange game is exceptional and his ability to finish at the rim has continued to increase over the last year.
Fland took an official visit to Indiana in June and it was a trip that immediately put the Hoosiers near the top of his list.
“Mike is great. He been around the NBA half his life but not only is he a good coach and basketball player but he is also a good person,” Fland told HoosierIllustrated.com. “He genuinely loves his players and he definitely could’ve stayed and worked as a head coach in the NBA but he wanted to have an impact on young men’s lives so they know what it takes to get to that next level and so that he can be apart of the process in guiding them to be the best they can be.”

The development of Indiana guard Jalen Hood-Schifino has been significant in the messaging from the Indiana basketball staff in Fland’s recruitment.
“I mean it kind of gives the overview and puts things into perspective,” Fland said. “As a freshman (Jalen Hood) Schifino was able to come in play a bunch of minutes and impact the winning Indiana did last season. To see that at the guard postion is big (for me).”
The Indiana basketball staff visited Fland three times in the past month, including sending its entire staff during their last visit.
Kentucky has long been the program that has been a wildcard.
“If they want them, you can get him,” Branham said last month. ” … I do believe Kentucky is the leader for that recruitment, going head-to-head with Indiana.”
Fland took his official visit to Kentucky, and Alabama, in September.
“That relationship has been going well. They’re trying to get me,” Fland said of Kentucky. “Their pitch is that they want me to come to their school, play with the guys and help them win. I felt what they were saying and felt like they were being real.”
Sources have remained firm on the fact that this is very close to call, in either direction. There are some that think Indiana wins out while others are hearing Kentucky. It’s going to be a fight until the end.
Fland is ranked No. 20 in the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
