Chloe Moore-McNeil announces she will use covid year and return to Indiana women’s basketball program next season

The Indiana women’s basketball program is going through senior day festivities on Sunday afternoon against Maryland but one senior who isn’t going through that celebration is Chloe Moore-McNeil.

The senior point guard was left off of the senior day program raising questions about her potential return to Bloomington next season. On Saturday, she addressed those on Twitter saying, “I’m here to stay.”

The Indiana women’s basketball official account confirmed the news by saying, “Can’t wait to run it back for year five.”

Moore-McNeil has been a backbone for the team’s success over the last few years and this year, she took her play to another level.

The 5-foot-11 point guard is averaging 10.1 points 3.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. She is shooting a career high 47.6 percent from the floor and 42.1 percent on 2.8 three-point attempts per game.

“She is the heart and soul,” Indiana women’s basketball head coach Teri Moren said of Moore-McNeil earlier this season. “She really got into her teammates tonight in timeouts, and she’s done that on more than one occasion for us and I love her leadership. I love her heart. I love how hard she plays and her teammates respect her because of the process. They’ve watched her sit, they’ve watched her work.”

While Moore-McNeil has always been about the team — and never about stats, one game this season exemplifies that even more.

Moore-McNeil became the fourth Hoosier in program history to have a triple-double when she finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists against Michigan State earlier this season. The best part? She didn’t even realize it as she sunk two free throws with under 10 seconds left. Her teammates were the ones who went crazy on the sidelines.

Moore-McNeil will return to Indiana with at least 118 games played under her belt.

Although Indiana will lose All-American forward and the program’s all-time winningest player and program’s leading scorer Mackenzie Holmes this offseason in addition to All-Big Ten guard Sara Scalia, it will return senior wing Sydney Parrish who announced earlier this season that she would be using her covid season as well to return next year.

Starting sophomore wing Yarden Garzon is also expected to return next season for Indiana, giving the Hoosiers a very good core back in Bloomington.

Indiana women’s basketball is currently 23-4 overall and 14-3 in Big Ten play. Going into Sunday’s matchup, it is expected to be a host for the NCAA Tournament.
