Brendan Sorsby expected to start at QB for Indiana football vs Rutgers

The Indiana football program has its new starting quarterback as Brendan Sorsby is expected to start for the Hoosiers on Saturday against Rutgers.

This will be Sorsby’s first start since week one against Ohio State.

After Tayven Jackson started from week two up until last week against Michigan, Tom Allen made it known that Indiana was back to evaluating its quarterbacks.

“We’ll make a decision (this week), and just bottom line is, as you go through and you look at the changes we wanted to make on offense — obviously made a major change a week ago with our staff — and just want to be able to do a great job of moving us down the field, scoring points. And that continues to be the goal,” Allen said on Monday. “Obviously did some good things. Both of them did good things on Saturday. Both of them made some mistakes. But it’s about protecting the football. It’s about running the offense and being able to be effective with that.”

Sorsby replaced Jackson in the second half against Maryland and led Indiana to 14 of its 17 points. Against Michigan, both Jackson and Sorsby split time on the field — a planned rotation from the coaching staff.

Both players struggled, however. Sorsby was 6-of-14 for 44 yards and one lost fumble. Jackson was 7-of-13 for 52 yards and two interceptions and one lost fumble.

On the season, Sorsby is 30-of-57 for 294 yards and two touchdowns and zero interceptions.

The biggest difference between the two quarterbacks this season are turnovers. Jackson has seven while Sorsby has one.
