As it was announced earlier today, Indiana basketball has hired Darian DeVries as the next head coach of the program after Mike Woodson stepped down earlier this season.
DeVries is the 31st head coach of the Indiana basketball program.
With the Hoosier having their guy, the next step will be assembling a roster. As expected, there could be a player or more join DeVries from West Virginia. One player that is expected to join Darian DeVries on his move to Bloomington is actually his son, Tucker DeVries.
As reported by Jeff Goodman, Tucker ovaries is expected to join his father at Indiana. DeVries only played 8 games this season due to an ongoing shoulder issue. He transferred to West Virginia from Drake when his dad took the job last offseason.
DeVries was the two-time Missouri Valley POY and was averaging 14.9 points and 4.9 boards this past season in the 8 games he played in. He’s also a 37 percent career 3-point shooter.
He scored a season high 26 points vs Arizona before he decided to shut it down last season. He will be applying for a medical redshirt.
DeVries is an extremely versatile player that can score inside-and-out. What is also appealing about DeVries is that he is a player that makes his teammates better around him. He would likely start day one at Indiana.
So far, Indiana basketball only has one player officially in the transfer portal with Gabe Cupps announcing he is entering but will keep an open mind on returning to the program.
