In the first game following Mike Woodson’s retirement announcement, Indiana basketball suffered a 70-67 loss at the hands of Michigan.

With the loss, Indiana drops to 14-10 on the season and 5-8 in Big Ten play.

Former Indiana basketball manager and now Michigan coach Dusty May earned his first win at Assembly Hall as a head coach. The Wolverines never trailed in the game, but the Hoosiers battled back.

After trailing by as much as 18 Indiana basketball came back and tied the game late, but it was not enough.

Mackenzie Mgbako’s big second half helped lead the comeback effort. Mgbako scored all of his 15 points in the second half. He also added a game-high 11 rebounds while shooting 5-11 from the field.

Malik Reneau looked like his pre-injury self in this one. The junior forward scored a team-high 16 points and added five assists in the loss.

Anthony Leal scored a season-high 12 points while shooting 4-5 from the field and adding two steals on the other end. Leal’s defense helped change the game in the second half as he guarded 7-foot center Danny Wolf in the second half.

Trey Galloway scored nine points off the bench for Indiana basketball, but struggled from three, making just one of his six attempts.

Luke Goode scored five points as he was held to just three attempts from the field.

As a team, Indiana shot 6-19 (31.6%) from three compared to Michigan who shot 5-21 (23.8%) from beyond the arc.

Oumar Ballo had a quiet game as Woodson elected to rely on Reneau in this one. Ballo finished with just six points and four rebounds in 20 minutes of action.

The Wolverines used their size to outrebound the Hoosiers 37-31, but both teams finished with eight offensive rebounds.

Michigan was led by the pair of centers Danny Wolf and Vladislav Goldin.

Wolf had a monster all-around game scoring 20 points with nine rebounds and five assists in the win. Goldin added 18 points and eight rebounds for the Wolverines.

Tre Donaldson also added 18 points for Michigan in the win.

Indiana basketball will have a quick turnaround as they travel up to East Lansing to face Michigan State on Tuesday night.
